Tratos receives EEF Innovation Award

Global cable innovator Tratos UK has taken the regional Innovation Award at this year’s prestigious EEF Future Manufacturing Awards (then became Make UK) in the north-west.

Tratos won the HVM Catapult-sponsored Award which recognises innovation at work across product development or operating practices that have been proven to deliver greater productivity, efficiency or business growth.

The company, which has manufacturing bases in the UK (Merseyside) and Italy, and offices worldwide, was chosen for the top prize by a panel of judges drawn from business leaders, industry experts and academics.

The panel was impressed with Tratos’ ability to create a culture of innovation that touches all aspects of its business.  It also commended the organisation’s success in becoming the ‘go to’ company for bespoke infrastructure solutions with implications for sustainable energy use.

Tratos UK will now go on to compete for the national title at an awards gala dinner in London in January next year.

Dr Maurizio Bragagni, CEO at Tratos, said: “Everyone at Tratos has worked hard to instil innovation at the core of what we do.  Today if you ask us what we do, our answer would be ‘innovate’. There are very few innovations in the world of emerging technology that don’t have a cable within them or attached to them.  Our business is at the cutting edge of advancement for industries as diverse as transport, rail, power, oil & gas, marine and communications and we are privileged to work with them at the highest level.

“We’re pleased that the Awards panel recognised the world-stage we operate on and that ours is very much a ‘futures’ business.  The UK manufacturing base is part of a wider international corporate family and makes significant and highly valued contribution to our success.”

Dick Elsy, Chief Executive at HVM Catapult, says: “Innovation, the drive to deliver ever better goods or services and the focus on continuous improvements in process and practice, is at the heart of every great company.  It is key to the efficiency, outstanding productivity and world-beating competitiveness that creates robust, sustainable growth.  Innovation creates opportunity but it is challenging. Those who master it deserve our recognition and praise.  Tratos UK is a worthy winner of the Innovation Award.”

EEF is the voice of UK manufacturing, encompassing around 20,000 companies from start-ups to multinationals across engineering, manufacturing, technology and the wider industrial sector.

The organisation directly represents more than 5,000 member businesses.

EEF provides essential business support and training and champions the manufacturing industry in the UK and the EU.  In short it was designed to help British manufacturers compete, innovate and grow.

Although this year sees it celebrate 120 years of backing Britain’s makers, providing help and advice on a wide range of business areas from HR and employment law and health and safety to environmental and productivity improvement, it’s never been more relevant.

EEF has an important role.  It offers advice, expertise and influence, helps enable businesses to remain safe, compliant and, most of all, future-focused.
