Tratos & Adriatic LNG Terminal cooperation
Tratos has supplied a 24 Optical Fibres cable to the ADRIATIC LNG Terminal, which needed a cable with a continuous length of 18 km. The selected cable was more than capable of fulfilling the specification as it is suitable for subsea installation of up to 200 meters in depth.
The continual 18 km length of Fibre was produced in the TRATOS Cavi factory in Pieve S. Stefano (Italy).
Adriatic LNG Terminal
The Adriatic LNG Terminal is the first offshore Gravity Based Structure (GBS) for unloading, storing and regasifying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), in full respect of the environment.
Located in the Adriatic Sea, about 15 kilometres off the Veneto coastline, the terminal is linked to the national distribution network through a pipeline.
Resting against the seabed at a depth of about 29 meters, the platform has an overall length of 375 meters and width of 115 meters. The main bridge is located 18 meters above sea level.
With a regasification capacity of 8 billion cubic meters of LNG per year (equal to half the national LNG import capacity), the terminal supplies over 10% of national consumption of natural gas.
Guaranteeing supply to Italy LNG shipped mainly from Qatar, but also from Egypt, Trinidad and Tobago, Equatorial Guinea and Norway, the Adriatic LNG terminal marked the start of a new phase in the national energy supply system.
To acknowledge its technological and strategic excellence within the national energy system, in 2010 the terminal was awarded “Best Infrastructure Project” at the 12th edition of the Platts Global Energy Awards.
Did you know?
During the 2019 the Adriatic LNG terminal:
- For the first time, the terminal reaches a 95.6% annual utilization rate. Furthermore, new records are scored in terms of LNG carriers received per year (88) as well as the volumes of natural gas sent into the national grid, accounting for 7.6 billion cubic meters.
- In June, the terminal successfully carries out first technical tests (mooring, unloading arms connection and unmooring procedures) to receive a Q-Flex carrier, which can transport up to 217,000 cubic meters of LNG.
- In August, the terminal receives its 700th carrier, the Ejnan, coming from Ras Laffan port in Qatar.
- In September, Adriatic LNG celebrates in Venice the 10th anniversary of its regasification terminal activity. The ceremony is attended by many institutional representatives, as well as representatives of the international and Italian economic community, including Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum – a shareholder of Adriatic LNG.
