REACH – Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals

Print

Tratos is fully compliant with the REACH, a European Union regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals. It came into force on 1st June 2007 and replaced a number of European Directives and Regulations with a single system.

REACH applies to substances manufactured or imported into the EU in quantities of 1 tonne or more per year. Generally, it applies to all individual chemical substances stand alone, in preparations or in articles. To summarise, REACH makes the cable industry directly responsible for assessing and managing the risks posed by chemicals and providing safety information to their users.

TRATOS expects all its chemicals and chemical based product suppliers to provide all necessary data. This information is then evaluated and authorised by our quality department so that our supply chain remains fully compliant. Failure to meet the necessary requirements can cause significant disruptions to the whole supply chain.  It is therefore very important that suppliers meet all REACH obligations.

Only a very small number of Tratos’ cables will qualify to come under the scope of REACH. The continual assessment of raw materials, continual overview of our own production materials and processes and fluent communication with suppliers and customers ensure that all products can be bought in total confidence. By paying close attention to regulatory detail under REACH, our aim is nothing less than providing 100% compliant products to customers.

WEEE – Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Tratos fully subscribes to the WEEE Directive introduced into UK law in January 2007. The Directive aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment produced and to encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it. It also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment. Tratos has enlisted the services of the UK’s leading producer compliance scheme, Valpak, to manage its recycling obligations and ensure compliance. *Tratos complies also on the WEEE regulations for Waste Batteries and Accumulators.

RoHS – Restriction of Hazardous Substances Regulations

Tratos is fully compliant with (RoHS) Regulations. They implement EU Directive 2002/95 which bans the EU market entry for new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. Tratos fully understands the requirements of the RoHS Directive and ensures that its products, and their components, comply.
