Tidal Power Cable specifically designed for use with tidal stream turbines

Tratos submarine Tidal power cable integrates existing power and communications technologies into a combined, robust solution for challenging tidal environments.

Using their expertise and knowledge of supplying subsea cables over several years, Tratos combined power, control and fibre optic double wire armoured cables, are specifically designed to maintain integrity while being subject to the movement caused by deployment in the harsh subsea maritime conditions encountered in high Tidal flows locations.

Tratos Tidal MV power cables use a triple extruded insulation system based upon HEPR, LV cables use a single layer of HEPR, control cores employ XLPE as the insulation, optical fibres are protected inside a stainless steel tube. The assembly of cores is optimised to resist the forces that act upon them during installation and use, the interstices are filled with a non-hygroscopic filling compound. The inner sheath or bedding for the galvanised steel wire armour if extrude polyethylene, the armour layers are applied in opposite directions to prevent the cable twisting, the outer sheath is a thick extruded layer of smooth, tough, water-resistant MDPE.

Water blocking can be applied at strategic points in the construction to suit customers requirements.

Being the actual manufacturer Tratos can offer bespoke designs to suit the particular source of Tidal energy.

Although originally designed to complement Tidal Stream technology, these cables can be used with advantage in Tidal Range technology applications.

Tratos is very pleased to contribute toward achieving Goal 7 of the UN Global Goals to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Goal 13: Climate Action, GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 14: Life Below Water, and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
