Tratos Spain – Zaragoza cable factory

Spain – TELNET Fibre Optic S.L.U. and Fiber Optic Manufacturing Hub

In Spain, Tratos significantly expanded its operations by acquiring TELNET Fiber Optic S.L.U. in 2024, strengthening its presence in the Iberian market. TELNET is located in La Muela, Zaragoza, and has been a key player in the fibre optic industry since its establishment. The facility covers 12,000 square meters and is one of Europe’s most advanced fibre optic cable manufacturing sites. With an annual production capacity of 1.2 million kilometres of fibre optic cables, TELNET specialises in producing various fibre optic solutions, including cables with all types of protective covers and sheathing.

The Spanish facility is critical in supporting Tratos’ broader mission to deliver high-performance fibre optic cables for telecommunications infrastructure, FTTH (Fiber to the Home) applications, and global data transmission networks. This acquisition has allowed Tratos to solidify its position as a leader in the fibre optic market in Spain and beyond.

Fibre to the Home (FTTH) and Telecommunications Infrastructure

The Spanish facility is critical in supporting Tratos’ broader mission to deliver high-performance fibre optic cables for telecommunications infrastructure, especially FTTH (Fiber to the Home) applications. As the demand for high-speed internet and data transmission continues to rise globally, FTTH networks are essential for providing reliable, high-bandwidth connectivity directly to homes and businesses.

FTTH utilises optical fibre to replace traditional copper connections, enabling faster and more reliable internet services with significantly higher bandwidth. The fibre optic cables produced by TELNET are integral to developing these networks, supporting seamless data transfer, video streaming, and cloud-based services.

Key Benefits of Tratos FTTH Fiber Optic Cables:

  • Ultra-high speed: FTTH cables provide fast, stable internet connections with gigabit speeds, far surpassing traditional DSL or coaxial networks.
  • High bandwidth capacity: Fiber optics allow for much larger data transmission volumes, which is essential for supporting 4K streaming, remote working, video conferencing, and smart home technologies.
  • Future-proof infrastructure: Fiber networks are designed to accommodate future technologies and growing demand for data, ensuring long-term viability and flexibility for upgrades.
  • Low latency: With minimal signal degradation over distance, FTTH cables ensure low-latency connections, which is critical for applications like online gaming, virtual reality, and telemedicine.

Other Advanced Fiber Optic Solutions

Beyond FTTH, TELNET’s production facility in Spain is at the forefront of manufacturing a broad range of fibre optic cables tailored for various telecommunications and industrial applications. These advanced fibre solutions are used in different sectors, enhancing the infrastructure of global data transmission, networking, and critical infrastructure projects.

Loose Tube and Tight Buffered Fiber Cables

  • Loose Tube Cables: Commonly used in outdoor installations, these cables feature optical fibres loosely housed in a protective tube, allowing for movement and expansion under different temperature conditions. They are ideal for long-distance telecommunication and outside plant applications.
  • Tight Buffered Cables: These are often used in indoor or short-distance applications where precise fibre protection is required. Tight buffered cables are ideal for data centres, in-building cabling, and local area networks (LANs).

Aerial, Duct, and Underground Fiber Cables

  • Aerial Fiber Optic Cables: Designed for overhead installation, these cables are built to withstand environmental stresses, including UV radiation, temperature variations, and wind load. These cables are key in building robust fibre infrastructure in urban and rural areas.
  • Duct and Underground Cables: For fibre optic installations in ducts and underground, these cables are engineered with enhanced protection against moisture, crushing forces, and other underground hazards. They ensure secure data transmission and are widely used in city infrastructure and rural broadband expansion.

Specialised Optical Fibers for High-Tech Applications

  • Single-Mode Fibers: These are used for long-distance communication and data transmission. They are capable of carrying signals over great distances without significant attenuation, making them essential for backbone networks and inter-city data connections.
  • Multi-Mode Fibers: Ideal for short-distance applications, multi-mode fibres are typically used in data centres, LANs, and building interconnections where high bandwidth and shorter distances are required.

Hybrid Cables

TELNET’s facility also produces hybrid cables that combine fibre optic strands with power transmission cables. These are ideal for applications where power and data must be delivered simultaneously, such as in remote locations or for smart grid applications, ensuring energy supply and network connectivity.

Driving Innovation and Growth in Fiber Optics

TELNET’s capabilities in Spain are central to Tratos’ ability to deliver innovative fibre optic solutions across Europe and globally. The wide range of fibre optic cables manufactured in La Muela supports everything from telecommunications networks and data centres to industrial applications and critical infrastructure projects.By integrating TELNET into Tratos, we have significantly bolstered our expertise in fibre optics, allowing us to meet the ever-growing demand for fast, reliable, and secure data transmission networks. With our focus on sustainability and technological innovation, Tratos is positioned as a leader in the fibre optic market, helping to shape the future of global communications infrastructure.
