The Egidio Capaccini Award: Honouring a Legacy of Knowledge, Work, and Community

On 16 November 2025, the town of Pieve Santo Stefano will once again celebrate excellence, dedication, and the enduring power of education with the return of the Egidio Capaccini Award — a recognition given to the most outstanding students of the community.

For over 25 years, this annual award has honoured young residents who have achieved the highest marks in their final middle school and high school exams. The initiative, strongly supported and sponsored by Engineer Albano Bragagni and Mrs Marta Capaccini, commemorates Engineer Egidio Capaccini, the visionary founder of Tratos Cavi S.p.A., whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

This year’s recipients are Viola Camerelli, who achieved the top mark of 10/10 in her middle school examination. Anna Seri and Lorenzo Bigioli, both graduating with an impressive 95/100 from the Liceo Scientifico Città di Piero in Sansepolcro.

The award ceremony will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, 16 November, at the Teatro Comunale of Pieve Santo Stefano. The event will be preceded at 10:30 a.m. by the laying of a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Pontenuovo Gardens, in honour of those who gave their lives in defence of peace and freedom.

A life dedicated to progress and community

Born in Pieve Santo Stefano on 24 November 1918, Egidio Capaccini lived a life of commitment to learning, innovation, and the welfare of his community. After completing his studies in Pieve and Fermo, he graduated from the University of Naples, Faculty of Naval Economic Sciences.

A man of profound moral and social conviction, Capaccini played an active role in rebuilding Pieve Santo Stefano after its devastation during the Second World War. Later, his journey took him to South America, where he gained the experience and determination to return home and fulfil his dream: to build an industry in his hometown capable of providing stable employment for future generations.

He often said: “I will not rest until I see the new generations settled, so that young, intelligent, and hard-working people will no longer have to emigrate.” These words encapsulate the founding spirit of Tratos Cavi, which remains deeply rooted in both innovation and social responsibility.

Continuing the vision

Today, Tratos stands as a global leader in the cable industry, with production facilities in Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany. Yet, it continues to draw inspiration from its origins — from the people of Pieve Santo Stefano and from the ideals of its founder.

The Egidio Capaccini Award serves as a living bridge between past and future: a celebration of excellence, perseverance, and the belief that education is the foundation of both personal growth and collective prosperity.
