Our second Italian facility, located in Catania, Sicily, is a cornerstone of Tratos’ European operations, complementing the capabilities of our primary plant in Tuscany. This state-of-the-art factory specializes in the production of medium-voltage cables up to 26/45 kV, adhering to international standards such as IEC 60502, IEC 60840, and IEC 62067 for optimal performance and reliability. Utilizing advanced insulation technologies like XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) and HEPR (High Ethylene Propylene Rubber), the facility produces cables designed to meet the rigorous demands of modern industrial, infrastructure, and energy transmission projects.
The Catania facility also manufactures a diverse range of low-voltage and signaling cables essential for critical applications in transportation, telecommunications, and industrial automation, conforming to standards like EN 50267 and IEC 60754 for low-smoke and halogen-free safety. A key strength of the facility lies in its focus on producing high-quality copper and aluminium conductors, which meet stringent international specifications to ensure maximum conductivity and reliability across all voltage classes.
These conductors are paired with Tratos’ proprietary insulation and sheathing compounds, such as PVC, LSZH thermoplastics, and elastomeric materials like EPR, CPE, and CSP. These materials are designed and developed in-house to enhance the cables’ electrical, mechanical, and environmental properties, guaranteeing exceptional performance and durability. By adhering to standards such as IEC 60092 for marine cables and IEC 60245 for rubber-insulated cables, the Catania facility ensures that its products meet the highest levels of quality and safety.
Beyond its core production capabilities, the Catania factory plays a critical role in serving specialized sectors, including railway signaling and power systems, where safety, reliability, and resilience are paramount. The facility also supports the defence industry, manufacturing cables capable of operating in extreme and high-stress environments, such as those governed by MIL and EN standards. These robust solutions benefit from Tratos’ in-house developed compounds, incorporating advanced additives like UV stabilizers, antioxidants, and curing agents to optimize performance under the most challenging conditions.
Together, the Catania and Tuscany facilities form the foundation of Tratos’ global manufacturing excellence. This synergy ensures a seamless supply of cutting-edge cable solutions to markets worldwide, enabling Tratos to meet the growing demand for sustainable, high-performance cables. Whether for energy transmission, railway infrastructure, or advanced defence systems, Tratos’ cables consistently exceed industry standards, embodying the innovation, quality, and reliability that have defined the company for decades.
