In the later stages of its growth, Fulgor Cavi became part of the FCC Fabbrica Cavi Catania, an industrial complex located in Catania, Sicily. This facility was critical in expanding the company’s production capabilities, allowing Fulgor Cavi to meet the increasing demand for energy and telecommunications cables. The Catania plant produced many cables for high-voltage power transmission and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Acquisition by Tratos
In 1989, Fulgor Cavi, under its FCC Fabbrica Cavi Catania name, was acquired by Tratos from the IRI (Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale), Italy’s public industrial holding company. After the acquisition, the Catania plant was rebranded as Tratos Cavi Sud and eventually merged into Tratos Cavi S.p.A.
The acquisition allowed Tratos to integrate Fulgor Cavi’s technical expertise, production facilities, and heritage of innovation into its broader operations. This move expanded Tratos’ manufacturing capacity and ensured that the legacy of Fulgor Cavi—a pioneer in Italy’s cable industry—would live on through Tratos’ continued growth in the global market.
Legacy of Innovation
Today, the legacy of Fulgor Cavi remains an integral part of Tratos’ identity. The company’s focus on innovation, quality, and reliability continues to influence Tratos’ approach to cable manufacturing. Fulgor Cavi’s contributions to Italy’s telecommunications and energy sectors left a lasting impact, and its heritage is still felt in the cables produced at the former FCC Fabbrica Cavi Catania plant, now under Tratos’ ownership.
Through this rich history, Fulgor Cavi has left a permanent mark on the global cable industry, and its pioneering spirit continues to thrive within Tratos, helping power and connect modern infrastructure worldwide.
