“Focused investment in a company-wide culture of innovation has paid off. We have just learned that Tratos has won an innovation award from the Institute of Directors – up against a very strong field. I am lucky to have such an incredibly talented team.”
Dr Maurizio Bragagni, Tratos Ltd CEO and Chair.
Cable technology innovator Tratos Ltd last night saw its CEO and Chairman awarded one of the Northwest and Isle of Man Institute of Directors’ top prizes – Director of the Year: Innovation.
Dr Maurizio Bragagni, who has led the independent business through a series of investments and expansions and opened up global markets, has seen Tratos grow thanks to a focus on innovation.
Italian-born British citizen, Dr Bragagni, who holds a doctorate in law from the University of Pisa and a Masters in Business Administration from Cass Business School, London, where his dissertation focused on innovation, set up the Tratos Academy to promote root-and-branch innovation and stimulate ideas within the company.
He said: “Innovation has to be given space and permission and support. A culture that welcomes curiosity and sees mistakes as positive contributions to the process of discovering what does work will always advance innovation. I am very proud of my team.
“Tratos is now working on world-scale emerging technology projects, such as the international ITER nuclear fusion energy project. We work with clients to solve their problems and we develop solutions to problems we identify ourselves, developing hybrid conductors to prevent losses of power as it travels from source to delivery point across overhead cables for example, or the world’s smallest micro cable to bring faster broadband to the home. Every day we are developing cable that moves the world forward, that breaks down the walls between impossible and a new enabling solution.”
Tratos made significant investments in its R&D, production and test facilities in its new state-of-the-art factory in Knowsley, Merseyside. It also has production bases in Italy and offices worldwide.
The NW & IoM IOD win gains the Tratos Ltd CEO a place in the national finals.
