Materials engineer, Barry Nicholson is providing specialist rail sector technical advice and support to Tratos’ CEO as the cable manufacturer grows its commercial success in the field.
Mr Nicholson joined Tratos with more than 40 years’ experience within the cabling industry. A recognised name in the rail sector, he is enhancing Tratos’ knowledge and understanding of the sector’s cable approval process and further developing its technical capabilities in this area.
Previously, Mr Nicholson joined AEI Cables as a plastics technologist in 1973. While with the company he worked as materials technology manager and latterly as Development Manager. He joined Tratos following the announcement of the closure of AEI Cables’ Birtley manufacturing unit last year.
Mr Nicholson said: “Tratos is an established and forward looking cabling business and one of a few companies that are still investing in UK cable manufacturing. The company has a growing reputation for providing bespoke cable products and solutions. I am working to help Tratos better understand the rail industry’s need for meticulous process across its approval requirements.
“It is through these high levels of attention to detail that the company can widen its client portfolio, and we will hopefully see more rail and mass transit cable products manufactured at the our UK factory in Knowsley.
“This isn’t a quick-fix. It’s about looking at all that Tratos does so that we gain product approval more efficiently and effectively.
“Tratos has much to offer the rail industry, and will be working with customers to provide innovative solutions that help the rail industry move forward. I expect our combined experience to be mutually beneficial.”
