Tratos has received an order to provide Tratosflex ESDB reeling cables for London Gateway, the UK’s first major deep-sea container port. Situated 25 miles east of central London and due to open in Q4 2013, the port is one of the most extensive developments in the UK and will provide entry into London for the world’s largest container ships.
Tratosflex ESDB cables have been used extensively for similar applications worldwide, including the Jebel Ali Port in Dubai and the Busan Port terminal in Korea. The exceptionally high quality and intelligent design of the range, as demonstrated in previous installations, were a major factor in their selection for London Gateway.
The Tratosflex ESDB range is different from other reeling cables available, as Tratos engineers have modified the internal cable design, tightening the structure against the internal relative movement to accommodate high speed applications; this prevents the common problem of twisting that affects cables reeling at high speed. Due to the medium voltage rubber insulated and sheathed drum reeling cable, Tratosflex-ESDB cables can operate in temperatures from -20ºC to +60ºC.
