TRATOS FIBRE® CW1841

CABLE OPTICAL FIBRE 24 – ANTI-BALLISTIC - AERIAL SELF SUPPORTING - SINGLE MODE – NON-PRESSURISED

Telecommunication Cables / Optical Fibres Cables / UK Telecom Fibre Optic Cables

This range of figure of ‘8’ aerial self supporting loose tube construction optical fibre cables containing 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 single-mode fibres for installation in Overhead Networks. These cables contain an anti-ballistic protection layer to protect the cable from damage by shotguns and air rifles. These cables are for use in transmission systems operating over the wavelength range 1260µm to 1625µm.

Associated hand tools for use during installation activities of the cable are available on request.

Being made in loose tube construction each tube is water blocked and contains 12 Single Mode colour coded fibres. The required number of colour coded loose tubes (1, 2, 4, 6 or 8) are assembled helically in one layer around a non-metallic central strength member, extruded fillers are included where required. The assembly of tubes and fillers are covered overall with a physically robust black high density polyethylene sheath, in a figure of “8” section the upper section containing a 1/2.64 mm zinc coated steel suspension strand. A rip cord is inserted under the sheath of the suspension member, and two rip cords inserted under the sheath of the fibre section, to aid stripping and termination of the cable.

3.7 Anti-Ballistic Protection

Materials shall be provided in order to protect the cable core from the effect of shotgun damage. The use of materials used shall be agreed with the SA at the cable design stage.

Tratos has developed this cable to have the optimum balance of properties, toughness to withstand suspended installation combined with a smooth, low coefficient of friction, surface, to reduce the build-up of airborne dust and contaminants.

The Step Index single-mode optical fibre (SMF) fibres used to manufacture these cables for BT meet or exceed the requirements for both Category 2 (and if required Category 1 fibres) as specified in CW 1505 for systems operating in the wavelength range 1260µm to 1625µm

Tratos use Lucent OFS and Prysmian fibres to manufacture the Optical Fibre Cables supplied to BT.

These cables meet or exceed the requirements of CW 1841

All of the polymeric materials used in the construction of cables for BT meet or exceed the requirements of BT Specification CW1500-7 and are RoSH compliant

Tratos are also able to supply a ruggedized antiballistic resistant overhead cable if required.
