Tratos Fibre DISAF – Network Rail approved cable

DISAF (Dual-Insulated Super-Armoured Fibre cable) is a ruggedised optical fibre cable that is designed to be installed on open ground without the protection provided by a cable route. The optical fibres are protected inside a stainless steel tube that has further protection from a thick aluminium tube, overlaid with a polyethene inner sheath, steel wire armouring, and a ZHLS outer sheath.

DISAF (Dual-Insulated Super-Armoured Fibre cable) is a ruggedised optical fibre cable designed for installation on open ground without the protection provided by a cable route.

The optical fibres are protected inside a stainless steel tube that has further protection from a thick aluminium tube, overlaid with a polyethylene inner sheath, steel wire armouring, and a polyethylene outer sheath.

DISAF single-mode fibre optic cables are usually installed trackside on the ballast and only when anchored in accordance with Network Rails installation and design standards.

DISAF cable can be buried on level crossing areas, this is to minimise & prevent theft and tripping hazards.

DISAF cable can be deployed where a new cable route and conventional fibre optic cable technically can’t be installed, providing a cost benefit indicates DISAF is an appropriate choice.

Tratos’ product acceptance certificate is for two cables: A 24 single-mode fibre Dual Insulated Super Armoured Fibre cable (DISAF), PA DS catalogue number 0006/140453 and a 48 single-mode fibre Dual Insulated Super Armoured Fibre cable (DISAF), PADS catalogue number 0006/140454.

Tratos uses OFS and Prysmian G652 optical fibres to manufacture the single-mode DISAF cable supplied and installed on the Network Rail infrastructure.

Standards

G652D is the ITU-T standard for standard single-mode optical fibre, known for its low attenuation and minimal signal loss, making it ideal for high-speed, high-capacity telecommunications.
