Umbilicals Cables

Tratos has been working in the oil and gas industry for over 40 years. In partnership with Brazilian umbilical manufacturer MFX it produces bespoke composite subsea umbilical cables for onshore and offshore oil production and thermoplastic high pressure hoses. MFX produced it’s first umbilical cable in 2009 and since then has produced gone on to be recognised as an International provider of top quality engineered products and services, MFX is focused on increased speed and flexibility to address new and future challenges in the oil and gas markets.
Working closely together, Tratos and MFX design and manufacture bespoke cable solutions to meet customers’ precise needs. Today Umbilicals form a vital link in the production system for subsea oil and gas, without which many fields would not be viable.

Tratos and MFX produce customized hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, injection, optical and power umbilicals able to carry out diverse activities for controlling chemical processes and injections for subsea oil and gas extraction in wells located at depths up to 3000 metres.

MFX´s list of completed projects is comprised of umbilicals with different structure/cross-sections configurations to suit a wide range of applications. With continuous lengths exceeding 10 km and with diameters ranging from 3″ to 10″, the umbilicals can be composed of hydraulic hoses, chemical injection hoses, as well as electric and optical cables, with or without steel armour, or special steel tubes combined with electrical cables.

MFX has already produced more than 500km of built-for-purpose umbilicals, all of which are functioning consistently and are fully compliant for the functions for which they were designed. These umbilical subsea cables have been tested extensively in both inhouse and independent laboratory trials as well as in actual installations and have proven themselves to be exceptionally reliable.

• TOTAL CAPABILITY- Tratos is able to supply complete products – from single conductors to total cable networks, thanks to its fully integrated production system.
• TESTING FACILITY – Tratos Chemical, Electrical and Physical testing laboratories are able to check raw materials, work-in-progress elements as well as carry out High Voltage Testing of the finished product in the largest Faraday cage in Europe.
• BETTER BY DESIGN – Tratos invests constantly in the latest technology, materials and human resources needed to meet the highest performance requirements in the field of Umbilical cables.

Tratos invests on average 7% per year on research and development into new equipment and products.
