SPECIFICATION CW1842 FOR CABLE OPTICAL FIBRE 215 ULTRA-LIGHT WEIGHT OVERHEAD FIBRE CABLE
This specification details the requirements for a range of light weight drop type design / construction cables for installation in the BT Fibre Network in Overhead and Underground environments.
These cables are of multi element construction containing 4 to 48 singlemode fibres. The transmission application for these cables are for systems operating in the wavelength range of 1260nm to 1625nm.
A prime requirement is that the overhead installation of the cable shall be compatible to the Standard BT drop wiring practice
The 4 fibre cable is specified as one buffered tube, the 12, 36 and 38 fibre cables are specified in separate buffered tubes containing 12 colour coded fibres. The required number of tubes plus dummy fillers where required are assembled together helically with water blocking filling in the interstices. The fibre assembly is covered with a Black HDPE sheath containing two metallic strength members placed diametrically opposite each other. Each strength member is specified as being 3 x 0.32 mm diameter brass coated, steel wires. Ripcords are inserted under the sheath to aid stripping and terminating of the cable.
The single mode fibres specified meet the requirements of Category 2 fibres as defined in BT Specification CW 1505. The transmission application for these cables are for systems operating in the wavelength range of 1260nm to 1625nm
These ultra-light weight COF 215 cables are specially designed for overhead use and meet or exceed the requirements of CW 1842, they are fully compatible with Standard BT drop wiring practice. Although primarily intended for overhead use these cables can also be used in underground installations where the smooth, low coefficient of friction surface of the sheath, eases blowing or drawing in ducts and prevents jamming.
All of the polymeric materials specified in the construction of these cables meet the requirements of BT Specification CW1500-7
