Sustainability innovator and independent cable manufacturer Tratos has been awarded a Silver Medal, for the second consecutive year, placing it among the 25% of highest-placed companies scrutinised by the eco-ratings platform.
Ecovadis is the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, creating a global network of more than 130,000+ rated companies.
Tratos continues to improve its sustainability practices, which are being recognised by Ecovadis. In 2023 Tratos scored 4 points higher than in the previous year.
Cable manufacturer Tratos launched its sustainability strategy earlier this year, the result of years of innovating greener business practices; from manufacturing longer-lasting, greener and recyclable cable to ensuring packaging is made from recycled materials. The company offsets its own CO2 and operates sustainable delivery and inventory practices through its supply chain to offer clients sustainability advantages.
Since 1980, Tratos Italy has used clean, renewable energy from its own hydroelectric plant. In 2001, the company started producing Tratos Green, a cable made using only hydroelectric energy. The company goes beyond compliance with its environmental policy and holds ISO 14001 for its environmental management systems.
Now a global business, Tratos works with several other environment-focused innovators. It has partnered with Spanish agency Aenor to help companies measure, and so manage, their carbon footprint and is working on a UK project to recover land-based CO2 and put it into a deep store under the sea bed.
Tratos continues to produce greener cable to afford its clients environmental, social, and ethical performance advances every time they choose Tratos cable.
Industry and services are under immense pressure to improve transparency and sustainability practices. Tratos has signed up for the UN’s 17 Sustainability Goals.

TRATOS Sustainability Strategy
Our values, experience and history tell us that we must work in a way that delivers real, lasting benefits for the owners of our company as well as the wider communities in which we operate.
Towards Net Zero Emissions
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main greenhouse gas, accounting for 81% of total UK greenhouse gas emissions in 2019, while 87% of all human-produced carbon dioxide emissions come from the burning of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and oil. Tratos has in place standards and policies to reduce the CO2 emissions as well as to calculate the CO2 emissions and to mitigate their impact by planting trees, as well as using clean energy sources.
