Tratos Track Feeder Cables – according to Transport for London (TfL) Underground standard

Tratos DC Traction Power Cables Transport for London (TfL) standard S1923 (formerly S1108) DC traction feeder cables.

Special Cables / Railways & Mass Transit Cables / Track Feeder Cables for Railways and Underground applications

Single core limited fire hazard (LFH) DC traction feeder cables for operating up to a nominal voltage of 750V DC on the London Underground, TfL DLR Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and Rail for London (RfL) metro networks.

The cables covered by TfL standard S1923 can be installed and operated  outdoors or in tunnels and sub-surface locations both as a power cable forming any part of the DC traction power supply circuit, such as connections between rectifiers and incoming DC circuit breakers within substations; Those originating within a substation and end with a connection to the traction conductor rail; Connections from the conductor rail to a depot shore supply system and connections from the conductor rail to track Isolating switches or other power equipment.

These cables are suitable for surface laid on ballast without additional mechanical protection and subject to compressive loading on sharp-edged ballast. They are also suitable for installation in concrete troughing or on cable brackets.

Tratos DC traction cables that are specified & installed on the London Underground (LU), TfL’s DLR and RFL networks comply with TfL standard S1085 Fire Safety Performance of Materials – Stations and Tunnel Infrastructure and comply with the reaction to fire requirements for Cca-s1a,d0,a3 as defined in BS EN 13501-6; The Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

As the actual manufacturer of DC traction cables, Tratos has total control of the design, quality and manufacturing process from the purchase of the raw materials through to final testing and despatch to our customers. Tratos have years of experience successfully supplying Railways and Mass Transit systems around the world.

Tratos manufactures Track Feeder cables using materials specially developed to withstand the operational and environmental conditions found in a trackside overground and underground Mass Transit environments.

Both of the covering layers are extruded, crosslinked material applied by extrusion in two closely adherent layers. This covering forms a compact, homogeneous body that fits closely over the separator tape. This two-layer covering provides the optimum balance between electrical and mechanical properties.

The inner layer of rubber compound developed by Tratos has excellent electrical and water-resistant properties, meeting or exceeding the requirements of GP5 to BS 7655-1.2. The outer rubber compound has been developed in house by Tratos and is a physically robust Low Smoke Zero Halogen material having a maximum material operating temperature of 90ºC and mechanical performance equal or superior to type RS4 as defined in BS 7655 Section 2.3, with the additional benefit of a tear resistance greater than 7.5N/mm. The outer layer also provides outstanding resistance to chemical contamination, from mineral oil, diesel, weed killing and de-icing fluids.
