TRATOSDEDALUS® – PV20 Solar cable for photovoltaic installations
The TratosDedalus® – PV20 0.6 kV/1 kV – Solar cables, manufactured by Tratos, have undergone rigorous testing and are proven to be suitable for use in photovoltaic installations, meeting the onerous IMQ CPT 065 standards, with an impressive thermal endurance duration of 20,000 hours at 120 °C.
TratosDedalus cable was designed and developed for photovoltaic installations for renewable energy production. It can be used internally or externally in fixed or mobile positions and can also be installed in conduits and ducts.
Tratos Solar cables are specified for use in Photovoltaic (PV) systems, particularly those for installation on the Direct Current (DC) side. They are suitable for fixed installations, both internal and external, and within conduits or systems. EN 50618 requires cables to be low smoke halogen-free, flexible, single-core power cables with cross-linked insulation and sheath.
Tratos Solar cables offer an exceptional balance of properties to withstand the arduous environmental challenges PV cables encounter. They are highly resistant to corrosion caused by chemical cleaning agents and mechanical abrasion, ensuring longevity and durability. Additionally, these cables exhibit an impressive temperature range, withstanding extreme conditions from -40°C to +120°C. (20,000h rating) Even in the event of a fire, they demonstrate optimal behaviour by minimizing flame propagation and reducing the emission of toxic and corrosive gases.
Tratos Solar cables have undergone extensive long-term testing to confirm their performance and reliability. They have been subjected to rigorous independent assessments such as the PV3 test lasting 3,000 hours and the much more severe PV20 test lasting 20,000 hours, ensuring their suitability for prolonged usage in this application. Furthermore, these cables exhibit excellent UV radiation and ozone resistance, making them ideal for outdoor applications.
The ease of assembly is another notable feature of Tratos Solar cables. They can be conveniently installed both internally and externally, in ducts or tubes, making them suitable for a wide range of industrial and agricultural locations.
These cables manufactured by Tratos are suitable for use with Class II equipment.
Tratos Solar cables prioritize environmental compatibility as they are halogen-free, contributing to a safer and more sustainable environment. Moreover, these cables facilitate ease of recycling and disposal, thereby saving energy and reducing environmental impact.
According to BS EN 50618
The current carrying capacity of Tratos Solar cables complies with Table A3 of BS EN 50618. They have undergone a complete range of Type, Sample and Routine tests as detailed in BS EN 50618 to ensure their quality and performance in service, including evaluation of their stability under DC operating conditions involving exposure to saltwater and high voltage for extended periods.
Overall, Tratos Solar cables provide a comprehensive cabling solution for Photovoltaic (PV) systems, combining durability, performance, ease of installation, and environmental sustainability.
How photovoltaic plants work and why they are so important
Photovoltaic solar energy converts sunlight into usable electricity through a scientific principle called the photoelectric effect. This form of renewable energy production is a sustainable and non-depleting energy source with excellent non-polluting attributes.
The adaptability of this technology is evident in its wide-ranging applications. Smaller-scale photovoltaic systems cater to self-consumption needs, while larger photovoltaic installations, otherwise known as solar farms or photovoltaic plants, have the capacity to generate large amounts of electricity to serve the needs of larger communities.
The importance of solar energy generated from photovoltaic systems goes beyond its fundamental purpose. As a vital element in the pursuit of worldwide decarbonization, photovoltaic technology plays a crucial role in lessening the detrimental ecological consequences typically linked to the production of energy from fossil fuels. This shift towards sustainable energy sources is a pivotal move in the international plan to decrease carbon emissions and mitigate the repercussions of climate change.
