The 11 kV Cables for Western Power Distribution are manufactured both in SINGLE CORE and TRIPLEX. Medium Voltage Polymeric (EPR) insulated cables for use for distribution of electrical energy by Western Power Distribution one of the foremost UK Distribution Network Operators.

WPD being the company that owns and operates the MV power lines and underground infrastructure that distributes electricity from the National Grids HV grid supply points to the final customers or end-users property throughout the Midlands, South West and Wales

Manufactured in accordance with BS 7870-4.10 “Specification for distribution cables with extruded insulation of rated voltages of 11 kV to 33 kV.” and WPD Engineering Specification EE SPEC: 82.

The Tratos standard product for WPD is 11kV Single Core (or Triplex) Circular solid aluminium (SAC) conductor, Ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) DIE 5, copper wire screen, Red medium density polyethene (MDPE) DMP 5 over sheath, either as a single core or as three single cores laid up in triplex formation to specification BS7870 and EE 82

Alternative constructions available from Tratos included in the WPD Engineering Specification are stranded copper conductors (Class 2) and Orange Low emission of smoke and corrosive gasses (LSOH) DMZ 4 over sheath, either as a single core or as three single cores laid up in triplex formation to specification BS7870 and EE 82

  • 95mm2, 185mm2, 300mm2 with MDPE sheath
  • 185mm2 with LSOH sheath

Copper conductors

  • 300mm2, 400mm2 with MDPE sheath
  • 300mm2 with LSOH sheath

Application

Tratos 11 kV Single and Triplex cable are the most common arrangement for supplying large industrial and commercial loads by underground distribution systems. The LSOH outer sheath is recommended where cables having a low emission of smoke and corrosive gasses when affected by fire is required.

CONSTRUCTION

  • Conductor: Circular solid aluminium or stranded circular compacted copper
  • Conductor screen: semi-conducting layer
  • Insulation: EPR or XLPE
  • Insulation screen: strippable (on EPR) or bonded (on XLPE) semi-conducting screen copper wire spiral screen
  • Outer sheath: MDPE or LSOH sheathed
  • Standard colour: RED (MDPE) or ORANGE (LSOH)
  • Triplex: 3 such cables spiralled together
  • Marking: WPD + ELECTRIC CABLE 11000 V + BS 7870 4.10 + TRATOS + 1XSize (AL if aluminium conductor) + lot production + year of production + metre marking
