Since 1980, Tratos has nurtured a close relationship with Transmission Network Operators (TNO’s), Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNO’s) and their contractors.
Throughout these years, Tratos has supplied to them a range of high-quality cables, to empower their distribution networks, maintain their sustainability and innovate to meet the demands of tomorrow.
Tratos DNO Approved Cables are designed and tested to meet all the relevant UK, EU and international standards. Manufactured in state-of-the-art facilities, the company’s purpose-built, in-house Fire, Chemical, Electrical and Physical testing facilities and laboratories deliver peace of mind to customers ensuring their choice of utility cable products meet all statutory and regulatory requirements.
Tratos in-house testing facilities include one of the largest Faraday Cage buildings in Europe, so Tratos is able to certify its cables are in compliance with the requirements of national or international technical authorities and issue the appropriate type test certification either with its approved in-house facilities or external laboratories.
In the UK, National Grid Electricity Transmission owns and maintains the high voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. National Grid connects to industrial properties and to the DNOs who deliver the electricity to homes and commercial properties through their own network of power lines and underground cables.
According to Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets), the government regulator for the electricity and downstream natural gas markets in Great Britain, there are 14 licensed distribution network operators (DNOs) in Britain and each is responsible for a regional distribution services area.
The 14 DNOs are owned by six different groups. The DNO groups and individual DNOs are as follow.

Western Power Distribution
Tratos supplies a comprehensive range of Distribution Network Operator (DNO) approved cables for use of Western Power Distribution (WPD). In addition, there are also a number of smaller networks owned and operated by Independent Network Operators (IDNOs). These are located within the areas covered by the DNOs.
Since the DNOs are natural monopolies, they are regulated by Ofgem to protect consumers from potential abuse of monopoly power. Tratos has established fruitful cooperation with all of the above DNOs, as well as with E-ON, a large European utility and UK’s large energy generator, by supplying to them high-quality electricity cables according to their demand and specifications.
