SPECIFICATION CW 1858 FOR CABLE OPTICAL FIBRE 315 ALL DIELECTRIC SELF-SUPPORTING OVERHEAD FIBRE CABLE

This specification details the requirements for a range of all dielectric self-supporting type (ADSS) design / construction cables for installation in the BT Fibre Network in Overhead and Underground environments.

These cables are of multi element construction containing 36 and 48 single mode fibres. The transmission application for these cables are for systems operating in the wavelength range of 1260nm to 1625nm.

A prime requirement is that these cables shall be suitable for installation below 33kV power lines.

These 36 and 38 fibre cables are specified as being separate water blocked tubes containing 12 colour coded fibres. The required number of tubes plus dummy fillers are assembled with water blocking filling helically around a non-metallic central strength member, the specification requires that the cable is neutrally balanced along its central axis.

The specification requires the fibre assembly to be covered with a high electrical grade, anti-tracking, Black HDPE sheath. Ripcords are inserted under the sheath to aid stripping and terminating of the cable. The cable sheath is specified as having two equally spaced, axial yellow stripes, to identify it

The single mode fibres specified to manufacture these cables meet the requirements of Category 2 fibres as defined in BT Specification CW 1505. The transmission application for these cables are for systems operating in the wavelength range of 1260nm to 1625nm

No metallic materials are used in the construction of these cables.

The cable meets the Operational Requirements specified in BT Specification CW1500-11.

All of the polymeric materials specified in the construction of these cables meet the requirements of BT Specification CW1500-7
