Track Feeder Cables for Railways and Underground applications

Ongoing investment in advanced technology, materials, and skilled personnel allows Tratos to provide a diverse range of specialised Track Feeder Cables for both mainline railway and inner city metro networks.

Tratos DC traction cables, available in 750 Volts and 1500 Volts, can be used on direct current (DC) electrified main lines as well as on subsurface and underground mass transit lines. These cables are compatible with both conductor rail equipment (CRE) systems and DC overhead line equipment (OLE) systems. Additionally, they serve a role in the return circuit on alternating current (AC) lines by connecting the running rails to the substation. Track feeder cables with aluminium or tinned copper conductors up to and including 1000 mm² are produced and supplied in a multi-layer insulation and sheath design. The insulation material used is based on Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR), covered with a tough, high-tear-resistant elastomeric oversheath. This oversheath may be based upon either halogenated or non-halogenated low smoke (LSZH) rubber. Tratos Track Feeder Cables are designed and manufactured to be compact and circular to aid installation, their design allows them to withstand the onerous conditions encountered during installation and operation, using ducts, suspended on J hooks or laid on the ballast trackside. The materials Tratos use to make their cables have been proven to withstand the harsh environmental conditions to which they are exposed during operation in the railway and mass transit industry.

Tratos TrackFeeder DC traction cables installed on Transport for London (TfL) rail networks are engineered to meet the highest safety standards. These cables fully comply with TfL standard S1085 – Fire Safety Performance of Materials for Stations and Tunnel Infrastructure, ensuring uncompromised safety and reliability.

Network Rail‘s DC traction cables, specifically designed for use in tunnels exceeding 0.1 kilometres in length and sub-surface stations, are engineered to meet equally stringent fire safety standards. These cables meet the minimum reaction to fire requirements classified as B2ca-s1a, d0, a1, in accordance with the tests outlined in BS EN 13501-6. Compliance is crucial to ensure a high level of safety of the railway infrastructure as defined by the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). This ensures optimal safety and fire performance in these critical transportation systems.

Tratos also designs, manufactures, and supplies signalling, power, and control cables for trackside applications, including data and telecommunications (copper and fibre optic)
