TRATOS SUBMARINE® – OPTICAL FIBER
Tratos manufactured TRATOS SUBMARINE Optical Fibre cables are designed to provide reliable, secure, high-speed optical transmission communication links in any underwater application.
Tratos are an experienced international manufacturer and supplier of Optical Fibre Cables, production of Optical Fibre Cables started in 1989 and since then Tratos have invested in the latest technology, materials and human resources needed to meet the highest performance requirements in the field of telecommunications.
Tratos invest on average 7% per year on research and development on new equipment and new products.
Cable types provided by Tratos include both single-fibre and hybrid-fibre constructions in either tight or loose tube designs, as a single cable to provide an optical fibre submarine cable link or as part of an optical fibre submarine cable network.
For maximum transmission capacity and distance, hybrid-fibre type cable designs are usually preferred.
Although Tratos submarine cables are constructed to be tough with high levels of mechanical protection, the careful design ensures lightweight and small diameter to aid installation.
Tratos Innovative Designs
In their latest range of optical submarine cables Tratos combine their experience and expertise in the supply of innovative optical fibre transmission systems with their in-house Power cable technology. The intrinsic three-layer protection afforded by the Tratos central tubular design provides enhanced physical protection to the fibres.
Tratos bespoke the design and manufacture of their submarine cables to meet the environmental conditions prevailing in the actual application. Although they all usually contain the required number of single-mode fibres within water blocked aluminium or steel tube, the cable can be finished with moisture barriers, rodent protection, one or more layers of steel armour or high tensile textile yarns and an extruded HDPE sheath or PP yarn wrapping.
Fibre Types
The single-mode fibres used by Tratos to manufacture its submarine cables can be any one of the 5 types included in ITU-T G.978
- non-dispersion shifted single-mode fibre (SMF) defined in [ITU-T G.652];
- dispersion shifted single-mode fibre (DSF) defined in [ITU-T G.653];
- cut-off shifted single-mode fibre (CSF) defined in [ITU-T G.654];
- non-zero dispersion shifted single-mode fibre (NZDSF) defined in [ITU-T G.655];
- wideband non-zero dispersion single-mode fibre (WNZDF) defined in [ITU-T G.656].
