Electrical installations in ships – Part 354: Single- and three-core power cables with extruded solid insulation for rated voltages 6 kV (Um = 7,2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36 kV)

IEC 60092-354 is applicable to shipboard and offshore power cables with extruded solid insulation, conductor and core screening, designed for fixed installations. These cables are suitable for voltage ratings of:

  • 3.6 kV / 6 kV (7.2 kV)
  • 6 kV / 10  kV (12 kV)
  • 8.7 kV / 15 kV (17.5 kV)
  • 12 kV / 20 kV (24 kV
  • 18 kV / 30 kV (36 kV)

The standard specifies requirements for both single-core and three-core configurations, providing guidance on the safe design and installation of medium-voltage power cables used in marine and offshore environments where robust and reliable electrical infrastructure is essential.

The various types of power cables covered are listed in section 5.1. The constructional requirements and test methods follow those established in IEC 60092-350, unless otherwise indicated within this document. This alignment ensures consistency across related standards, supporting interoperability and simplification in manufacturing and installation practices.

Cables designed according to IEC 60092-354 are intended for fixed systems which may be exposed to vibration or movement due to ship or platform motion, but not for frequent or continual flexing. For applications requiring flexible cables, other standards such as IEC 60227 and IEC 60245 are more appropriate, particularly in non-marine environments such as portable tools or domestic appliances.

IEC 60092-354 is also available as IEC 60092-354: RLV, which includes a redline version highlighting all changes to the technical content compared to the previous edition, making it easier for users to identify updates and modifications.
