Tratos Cable Manufacturer

IEC 60092-352:2025 provides the basic requirements for the selection, installation and operating conditions of electrical cables intended for fixed electrical systems on board ships at voltages (U) up to and including Um 18/30 (36) kV, symmetrical category cables and fibre optic cables.

The reference to fixed systems includes those that are subjected to vibration (due to the movement of the ship) or movement (due to the motion of the ship), and not to those intended for frequent or continual flexing. This distinction ensures that the installed cables are suitable for maintaining long-term integrity and safety in dynamic marine environments where mechanical stresses are common.

Cables suitable for frequent or continuous flexing are detailed in other IEC specifications, such as IEC 60227 and IEC 60245. These flexible cables are typically limited in use on board ships to applications that do not involve direct exposure to the marine environment, for example, portable tools or domestic appliances.

IEC 60092-352 forms part of the wider IEC 60092 series, which comprises a set of International Standards concerning electrical installations in seagoing ships and fixed or mobile offshore units. The series is designed to incorporate good practice and to co-ordinate, as far as possible, existing rules, supporting the consistent and safe application of electrical systems in maritime contexts.

IEC 60092-352 is also available as IEC 60092-352: RLV, which includes a redline version highlighting all changes to the technical content compared to the previous edition, making it easier for users to identify updates and modifications.
