Electrical installations in ships – Part 353: Power cables for rated voltages 1 kV and 3 kV

IEC 60092-353:2024 is applicable to shipboard and offshore non-radial field power cables with extruded solid insulation, having a voltage rating of 0.6/1 (1.2) kV or 1.8/3 (3.6) kV intended for fixed installations. This includes power cables designed to maintain circuit integrity during a fire, supporting safety-critical systems in marine and offshore environments.

The standard outlines the types of cables covered under section 5.1 and specifies that the constructional requirements and test methods are aligned with those given in IEC 60092-350, unless otherwise specified. These harmonised requirements ensure the reliability and durability of the cables under typical operational conditions encountered on ships and offshore units.

The object of this standard is threefold:

• To standardise cables whose safety and reliability are ensured when installed in accordance with IEC 60092-352 or IEC 61892-4.
• To define standard manufacturing requirements and performance characteristics of such cables, particularly those directly or indirectly impacting safety.
• To specify test methods used to verify conformity with the above requirements.

This standard forms part of the broader IEC 60092 series, which sets out international standards for electrical installations in seagoing ships and fixed or mobile offshore units, ensuring safety, performance, and international compatibility across the maritime industry.
