TRATOS® Railways 11kV MV cable – BS 6622
Special Cables / Railways & Mass Transit Cables / MV and HV cables for Railways applications
Continued investment in the latest technology, materials and human resources enables Tratos to supply a broad spectrum of specialised railways cables. Fixed trackside power cables include High voltage and Medium voltage single-core and three-core cables distributing power around NR premises, substations and switchgear, including the single-core 25/44 kV OLE cable.
Tratos MV and HV cables are manufactured in accordance with NR/PS/ELP/00008 “Product specification for high voltage cables and accessories for traction supplies” and BS 6622 supplemented by IEC 60840 as appropriate.
Cables available include 6.35/11 kV, 12.7/22 kV and 19/33 kV in single and three-core polymeric cables for D.C. Electrified lines and 25 kV two-core concentric and single-core polymeric cables for A.C. Electrified lines.
Available with circular solid aluminium for supplying d.c. traction substations, circular stranded compacted aluminium conductors for interconnection of equipment within substations or circular stranded compacted copper conductors for interconnection of equipment within substations. Conductors for a.c. electrified lines have circular stranded compacted copper conductors.
The smallest single core cable is 120 mm2, and for two core concentric cables, 300 mm2.
All cables are manufactured with triple extruded, dry-cured EPR (GP7) or XLPE (GP8) insulation. The metallic insulation screens comprise individual copper wires in single or three-core designs. The concentric conductor on concentric conductor cable also comprises individual copper wires. Designs for three-core armoured cables or unarmoured cables are available. Cables are sheathed with a Black Medium Density Polyethylene (TS 2). Other sheathing materials, such as LSZH, are available on request.
Cable designs based upon BS 7835 and BS EN 60502 are also available on request.
Designed to be maintenance-free, Tratos MV and HV cables offer exceptional long-term reliability and performance.
Minimum bending radius
The cross-sectional area of screens – calculated to be capable of carrying the fault current specified in the procurement specification.
Cross section of the concentric conductor – equal to the phase conductor.
Tratos specialises in the Design, Development and Production of MV and HV cables up to 245 kV and has a great many years of experience supplying cables with proven reliability to Power Utility Companies worldwide. Tratos MV and HV cables are distinguished by the use of advanced technology to manufacture cables with increased pliability, decreased weight and increased strength.
Tratos Engineers work closely with manufacturers of Medium (MV) and High Voltage (HV) accessories manufacturers including joints, terminations and fixings, to help ensure a trouble-free installation.
Tratos MV and HV cables are used to distribute power in and around railway substations and premises when the requirement is for underground, not overhead cables, including the single-core 25/44 kV cable used to supply the OLE equipment.
Tratos also manufactures and supplies a range of innovative hybrid high-temperature low sag overhead conductors when required.
Tratos MV and HV cables are distinguished by Tratos’ ongoing investment in the latest technology, materials and human resources needed to meet the highest safety and performance requirements demanded by the Railway Industry.
Tratos in-house testing facilities include one of the biggest Faraday Cage buildings in Europe, so we can control our production to follow and meet the requirements of national or international technical authorities and issue the appropriate type of test certification either with our approved in-house facilities or external laboratories.
Tratos UK site in Knowsley, the Northwest of England, also houses a large Faraday Test cage:
High-performance Tratos cables – designed and manufactured for reliable energy-efficient MV and HV supplies to the latest high-speed railway networks
SECURE ADVANTAGE – Clever theft-prevention new technology, such as identity threads and alarmed cable make cable theft less rewarding and improves traceability.
Tratos also manufactures and supplies Fixed trackside communication and signalling cables, including Data & Telecommunications (copper & fibre optic) and Signalling Power & Control cables. Tratos are also a major supplier of Rolling Stock cables, including Inter car jumpers and Pantograph cables.
Several of the Tratos Railway cable families are approved by NR and other National Rail Operators, including Frecciarossa; the Italian Railways’ “Alta Velocità” (High-Speed Train) project; contact Tratos Sales for details.
