Renewable Energy Cables

Tratos designs and manufactures specialised cable systems for renewable energy infrastructure, engineered to withstand demanding electrical characteristics and harsh environmental and operational requirements of solar, wind, hydroelectric, and energy storage installations.

Solar Photovoltaic Cables

Our TratosDaedalus solar cables connect PV panels to inverters in installations ranging from residential rooftops to utility-scale solar farms. These single-core DC cables feature tinned copper conductors (4mm² to 70mm²), tightly cross-linked HEPR insulation, and EVA outer sheaths engineered for UV resistance, ozone exposure, and temperature extremes (-40°C to +120°C). Independently certified to EN 50618 (H1Z2Z2-K) since 2010, and tested to UL 4703, and TÜV 2 Pfg 1169/08.2007 standards, with 20,000-hour long-term testing (PV20 rating) at 120°C, they deliver 25+ year operational life in direct sunlight exposure.

TratosDedalus cables are already deployed in major European installations, including the Surbo photovoltaic field in Ciminna, Palermo—one of Europe’s largest solar facilities—demonstrating proven performance in utility-scale applications.

Wind Turbine Cables

The TratosWind  range includes flexible HEPR-insulated cables for medium-voltage (6,35/11 kV to 19/33 kV) power transmission from turbine nacelles to ground-level substations. These cables are designed for both onshore and offshore wind installations, featuring:

  • Tower cables: Power and control cables connecting nacelle generators to tower-base transformers
  • Turbine umbilical cables: Torsion-resistant designs (±100°/m) allowing blade pitch adjustment and yaw movement
  • Array cables: Medium-voltage (19/33-36/66 kV) inter-turbine connections within wind farm networks

Our wind cables are based on halogen-free, low-smoke materials with a proven track record of long life in both onshore and marine environments. Tratos wind cables have been specified and successfully used on many offshore projects. They are compliant with the applicable international standards.  Flexible tower cables are based on flexible rubber cables, so the standards used in their construction are EN 50525, EN 50395, EN 50396, EN 60754, EN 13501, VD 0250 Pt 813, and VDE 0250 Pt 814.

Marine Energy Cables

Tratos submarine Tidal power cable integrates existing power and communications technologies into a combined, robust solution for challenging stresses cables experience in a Tidal environments.
Tidal Power Cables are specifically designed for use with tidal stream turbines and wave energy devices.
Using their expertise and knowledge of supplying subsea cables over several years, Tratos combined powercontrol and fibre optic into double wire armoured cables that are specifically designed to maintain integrity while being subject to the movement caused by deployment in the harsh subsea maritime conditions encountered in high tidal flow locations.

Grid Connection & Distribution

Tratos supplies medium and high-voltage cables for renewable-to-grid connections, including:

  • 11kV and 33kV cables (to BS6622, BS7835 or BS7870) for connecting wind and solar farms to distribution networks
  • Submarine/subsea export cables for offshore wind farm power transmission to mainland grids
  • DNO-approved cables manufactured and tested to distribution network operator specifications

Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

Tratos cables support the electrification of transportation networks, with robust, flexible charging cables with increased pulling tension for easier installation in charging station projects. We supply fixed cables to distribution network operators upgrading networks to meet EV charging demand.

High Voltage Shore Connection (HVSC)

In ports worldwide, Tratos IEC/IEEE 80005-1 HVSC cables enable ships to connect to shore power, eliminating shipboard generator emissions during port stays.

Environmental & Manufacturing Standards

Since 1980, Tratos has manufactured cables using clean hydroelectric power from our own plant. All renewable energy cables are available in halogen-free, recyclable compounds that reduce toxic emissions during fire exposure. Our Tratos Green product line uses energy from Tratos hydroelectric and Tratos solar plants.
