Tratos has been a crane cable manufacturer for decades. Crane cables, often called reeling cables, are specialised cables designed to power and control various equipment used in industrial settings, including cranes, hoists, festoons, conveyors, and gantries. These type of heavy duty cables play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery involved in lifting and handling tasks across industries such as mining, ports and marine.

Tratos Crane Cables are engineered to withstand the rigorous demands of heavy-duty applications. They must be robust enough to simultaneously handle torsional (twisting) and tensile (stretching) stresses. To meet these requirements, many crane cables feature a durable rubber outer sheathing, protecting constant reeling and movement and resisting oils and greases. Additionally, some cables come with Polyethylene (PUR), low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) compound or PVC sheathing options to cater to specific needs.

One of the critical characteristics of crane cables is their ability to resist UV radiation, as they often operate outdoors, exposed to the elements. Moreover, they are designed to resist oils and greases, ensuring optimal performance in challenging industrial environments. These cables are typically EMC screened to safeguard against electromagnetic interference, which can occur when carrying heavy loads. They also maintain flexibility within a wide temperature range, typically between -20°C and +70°C.

Tratos instead produces the standard YSLTOE,  NSHTOU, NSHTOU had developed a new stong family with high life expectations: Tratosflex®, Tratosmar®t, Tratoslight® VR,  Tratoscoilflex®, Tratosfestoon®).

TRATOSFLEX-ESDB® – Reeling Cable Among the diverse range of crane cables available, one standout product is the TRATOSFLEX-ESDB® reeling cable. This cable, designed by TRATOS, is engineered for various crane applications, particularly for material handling tasks. It complies with stringent standards, including VDE 0250 p.813 (as applicable) and HD 620 S2, ensuring its reliability and performance in demanding industrial environments.

Key features of the TRATOSFLEX-ESDB® crane cable include its capability to operate at high speeds, resist torsion, and withstand high pulling tension, making it well-suited for reeling on end feed and centre feed applications. Its unique design focuses on strengthening the internal structure while minimising the outer diameter, reducing the risk of twisting and breakage. This design ensures a consistent and reliable electrical feed to the connected equipment.

TRATOSFLEX-ESDB® also boasts an innovative outer sheath compound, JBA, offering superior flexibility compared to industry standards. This crane cable further includes custom centre support and anti-torsion protection, enhancing its durability and performance.

These exceptional features have allowed TRATOSFLEX reeling cables to outperform competitors in ports worldwide, capable of operating at speeds of up to 300 meters per minute (MPM). They find extensive use in demanding applications across more than 300 ports and terminals globally, including manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic yards. These crane cables are recommended for various mobile equipment inside ports, from STS cranes to RMG, providing medium voltage feed and secure data transmission capabilities. They are available in standard-rated voltages, including 3.6/6 kV, 6/10 kV, 8.7/15 kV, and 12/20 kV, with custom voltage options available upon request.
